Gross Household Odor? Find Out What May Have Caused It

Gross household odors can be a major concern and we already know, in an instant, what may have caused it. Can be pet odor, mold, and mildew somewhere or we second look at all of our bins. We can also suspect our carpets. Identifying where the smell comes from is important so we can address it immediately.

But do you know that there are also some other causes of gross household odors? They are these areas or factors we missed to think of. Here they are! Double check, and look around if one of the below is causing the smell that’s disturbing our peaceful house time.

Leaking Toilet

Notice water around the base of the toilet? Looks like the toilet’s wax ring has ruptured. This could have happened for more than one reason, but the most common is that the toilet wasn’t properly installed, in the first place. If the wax ring isn’t making proper contact with either the base of the toilet or the flange, it can cause leaks that can lead to major water damage, eventually causing odor. So you better have them fixed!

Water Heater

Every water heater has an anode rod, and its job is to attract ions that otherwise corrode the tank liner, producing hydrogen sulfide gas as a byproduct. You should replace the rod every five years or so, but most people forget, and as a result, the hot water supply can get stinky. It’s easy to replace an anode rod, and while you’re at it, you should also flush the tank to get rid of the contaminated water.

Gas Leak

This is a serious problem so you might be able to follow your nose to find the source. This could be as simple as a burner on the stove that someone forgot to turn off or a loose gas fitting that you can tighten with a wrench. If the smell is pervasive and impossible to trace to a single source, you have the makings of an emergency. Call for a professional service now.

Dirty Drains

If you are throwing everything in the garbage disposal, it may be causing a buildup and not properly getting rid of everything. Common disposals like coffee grounds, potato peels, and more — are more apt to clog. But if you do that anyway, you should at least clean your garbage disposal every so often if it harbors bacteria. Remove the drain cover and scrub the rim with.  soap and hot water to kill the bacteria and stop the odor.

If done checking the above areas – and negative – the more you need help from professionals. Their intervention is just what you need at this time so contact them and make a booking now so you and your family can breathe fresh and relax beautifully.,
